Skip The Small Talk: Manila

February 21, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm

After seven months roaming across Europe, this beloved gathering is finally coming to Manila.

ABOUT STST:

The best conversations can often start with one good question.

What if instead of wading into the ocean of deeper discussions, we just dive right into it?

Skip The Small Talk is a series of events based on a deck of cards containing fifty-two questions made to make you pause, think, and open up. We’re here to get right into the meat of it. Let’s talk about deep desires, fears, dreams, and all that makes us who we are.

The rules are simple: no talk of work, school, the news, or the weather.

This is a place where you can make friends with people from different countries and cultures. Share ideas and perspectives instead of business cards and social media profiles.

– Doors open at 7PM. Official start is 8PM. (Important note: You can’t come in past 8! Or if it gets full before then, we might have to turn people away, sadly. So try to come early!)

– Entrance is 300 pesos. (You can purchase at the door, but space is limited and purchasing tickets online will ensure a spot!)

(For now, this is a one-time event in Manila. Try not to miss this one!)

ABOUT THE ORGANIZER:

Miguel is a filmmaker, photographer, and writer. Most of the questions came from his years of shooting documentaries and conducting interviews. The idea was born out of his frustration with small talk and shallow conversation. (Really, there’s a limit to how much you can talk about the weather, work, and who’s dating whom.) Originally, this was made for parents wanting to have better conversations with their kids at the dinner table, but it turned out it’s a real universal predicament.

Miguel was born in Manila, moved to San Francisco to study film at the Academy of Art, worked in the film industry in Los Angeles as a camera assistant, directed a bunch of shorts that got in a bunch of festivals, moved back to Manila to direct commercials and docs in Southeast Asia, then for some odd reason, went on hiatus to move to Europe and study Media & Culture at the University of Amsterdam. He has now finished the program and is focused on bringing So Cards to life. He also finds it strange speaking in third person.
